Hungary: Sunday Results

Budapest, Hungary (July 31, 2022)

Red Bull's Max Verstappen came from a starting position of P10 to win the 2022 Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday at the Hungaroring outside of Budapest, Hungary.

The win was the 2021 World Champion's seventh of season and the 28th of his career.

"It feels crazy to have won the race today from P10, especially on a track like this where it's very hard to pass. We made all the right calls today, there were some good undercuts and overall we did a great job today as a Team," said Verstappen. "This was definitely one of my best races, despite the little 360-degree spin! I'm very happy with the lead that we have, but of course we have to keep pushing and win more races."

Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and pole sitter George Russell finished second and third, respectively. It was the second double podium appearance of the Silver Arrows in 2022.

"The team and drivers can be really proud of the way we'd turned the weekend around after Friday. George's first pole and the team's first with the W13 was a nice achievement and another double podium is a great way to head into the break," said Mercedes Andrew Shovlin, Engineering Director.

Ferrari's Carlos Sainz and Red Bull's Sergio Perez finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

Ferrari's Charles Leclerc, who started outside the pole. finished sixth, opting to go on hard tires mid-way through the Grand Prix.

"It's a shame we didn't bring home a better result, because the car felt good and we had a strong pace on Medium tyres today. Unfortunately, the Hards just did not work in these conditions, " said Leclerc.

McLaren's Lando Norris finished seventh and the Alpine's of Fernando Norris and Esteban Ocon finished eighth and ninth, respectively.

"We opted for a one-stop with both cars, which meant we had to be quite careful across both stints on the Medium and Hard tyres to ensure we could reach the chequered flag with sufficient pace in hand," said Otmar Szafnauer, Team Principal of Alpine. "We did a good job in the end to hold off some others behind on two-stops who were coming on strong with fresher tyres."

The racing series goes on their summer break until starting off again in Belgium in the last weekend of August.
