Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz led the two Formula 1 practice sessions for the Italian Grand Prix on Friday at the Monza Circuit just north of Milan, Italy.
In FP1, Leclerc's quickest time was followed by Sainz who was followed by the Mercedes Silver Arrows of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton.
"Overall it has been a positive day. We still need to check all the data, but I felt quite comfortable in the car and the package this weekend seems to be working well.," said Sainz.
"There is still work to do to try and improve the pace on the long runs, so we'll look into every detail tonight and try to improve for tomorrow but especially for the race," added Sainz.
Sainz, Hamilton and points leader, Max Verstappen, will take grid penalties on Sunday due to engine and gear box component upgrades. AlphaTauri's Yuki Tsunoda, Red Bull driver Sergio Perez and Alfa Romeo's Valtteri Bottas will also take grid penalties for the Italian Grand Prix on Sunday.
In FP2 Sainz led the field followed by Verstappen with Leclerc, McLaren's Lando Norris and Russell rounding out the top five.
"The feeling in the car was good. We still haven't found the sweet spot in terms of balance, but we tried many different things throughout the day and know which direction we want to go in," said Leclerc.
According to pitpass.com: updates this weekend include a new front wing flap and beam wing for Mercedes, a new rear wing for Red Bull, as beam wing for Ferrari and front and rear wing flaps for McLaren.
Alpine has removed its beam wing gurney, while Aston Martin has new front and rear wing flaps and Williams has a new single element beam wing.
AlphaTauri, Alfa Romeo and Haas have brought no updates.
Nyck De Vries subbed for Aston Martin's Sebastian Vettel in FP1. Antonio Giovinazzi replaced Guanyu Zhou at Alfa Romeo also in FP1.
This week Porsche has announced that its potential partnership with Red Bull will not now happen.
The German manufacturer said:
"In the course of the last few months, Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG and Red Bull GmbH have held talks on the possibility of Porsche's entry into Formula 1. The two companies have now jointly come to the conclusion that these talks will no longer be continued."
