Ferrari's Charles Leclerc claimed the pole for the Italian Grand Prix at the Monza Circuit just north of Milan, Italy.
Mercedes driver, George Russell, will start outside the pole at Monza on Sunday.
"We worked hard to make improvements and it looks like we have become more competitive again," said Leclerc.
"I felt confident in the car from the first practice session on and our race pace was strong, so hopefully we can convert this pole into a victory tomorrow."
"Taking pole position in Monza, in front of a full crowd for the first time in two years, is a really special feeling," said Laurent Mekies, Ferrari Racing Director. "We dedicate this achievement to all our tifosi who never waver in their support for us. Charles did a very good job, because once again he put together the perfect lap."
"Charles is starting in front, then we have Sergio, Carlos and Lewis coming from the back. We need to run our own race, focus on staying in the podium positions and put up a good fight," said Russell.
McLaren's Lando Norris will start third followed by teammate Daniel Ricciardo and AlphaTauri's Pierre Gasly rounding out the top five.
Nyck de Vries will start from the eighth position on his F1 race debut after Williams driver Alex Albon was ruled out of the Grand Prix falling ill to appendicitis.
Points leader and 2021 champion, Max Verstappen, will start in position seven on Sunday. Alfa Romeo's Zhou and Williams Nic Latifi will round out the top 10.
In Free Practice Session 3 Verstappen was quickest followed by LeClerc and teammate Perez.
