Red Bull's Sergio Perez won the 2022 Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday on a wet Marina Bay Street Circuit in a race that had two previous F1 appearances canceled due to COVID-19 restrictions.
Perez took the lead from pole sitter, Charles Lecerc of Ferrari, at race start and never looked back to take his second victory of the 2022 F1 season.
"It was certainly my best performance," Perez said. "I controlled the race."
"The last three laps were so intense - when I got out of the car, I felt it. I gave everything today," added Perez.
Leclerc finished second with teammate, Carlos Sainz, rounding out the podium.
"Our pace was really good today so it's a shame to finish second. We had some wheel spin at the start and didn't get away as well as Checo (Perez). That put us on the back foot," said Leclerc.
"I pushed to put pressure on Checo but my front tyres got a bit too warm and he started pulling away," added Leclerc.
The race was cut short from the scheduled 61 laps as the two hour time limit was exceeded.
McLaren driver Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Norris took advantage of a safety car deployment on Lap 35 when most teams had pitted. AlphaTauri driver, Yuki Tsonoda, caused the safety car after hitting the barriers in Turn 10.
"A very good day, with both cars in the top five. It was a tough race, especially with the conditions, but the whole team did a great job today," said Norris.
Aston Martin also had their two cars in the top ten with Lance Stroll finishing sixth and Sebastian Vettel finishing eighth.
"On a very slippery track surface, both our drivers handled an extremely tricky task superbly. As a result, we have climbed a couple of places in the Constructors' World Championship, which is a welcome reward for the steady progress we have been making recently," said Mike Krack, Aston Martin Team Principal
Points leader and 2021 World Champion finished seventh after a fuel problem in qualifying put him eighth on the grid at the start.
Lewis Hamilton, who started third, hit the barrier on Lap 33 at Turn 7 after being a bit late on the brakes. Hamilton pitted two laps later losing time with adjustments to front wing damage.
"Today was about who gets on the slicks first and it would have been slice and dice with Carlos, which I was working towards. But that went out of the window when I had that lockup going into Turn 7," said Hamilton.
AlphaTauri's Pierre Gasly rounded out the top ten.
