Formula One Free Practice sessions one and two took place at the the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Barcelona, Spain on Friday June 2nd.
Red Bull's Max Verstappen logged the quickest times in both sessions. Verstappen's Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez was second quickest in the first practice session.
"We had a good day today. The car was in a good window and of course we will try to fine tune a few things here and there but the short runs and long runs look good," said Verstappen. "The last two corners are better and more fun to drive,
"F1 cars feel much better at high speed. I tried to follow a few cars through there as well and it seemed okay, I'm positively surprised by the overtaking opportunities. I still need to look at the data and see how the other cars compare but today was a good day," said Verstappen.
The teams tried out two additional sets of hard tyres that will be used from the British Grand Prix onwards.
Aston Martin's driver, Fernando Alonzo, a local fan favorite and native of Spain, was second quickest in FP2.
"We went through our test programme this morning in Free Practice One and learnt about the prototype tyres, with the track a little slower than we expected," said Alonzo. "The upgrades we've introduced are helping the performance of the car and we are happy with them so far, but let's see where we are tomorrow when everyone is pushing.
Nico Hulkenberg of Haas Racing and Alpine's driver, Esteban Ocon, who made a podium appearance last weekend at Monaco, recorded the third and fifth quickest FP2 times, respectively, on Friday.
"It was a productive Friday here at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya for the team," said Ocon. "We used both Free Practice sessions well, testing different things and getting through our planned programme. We made the necessary changes from Free Practice 1 to Free Practice 2 but there is still some work to do to get the car in decent shape both on low and high fuel. "
The teams tested two extra sets of C1 tyres with the new construction due to be introduced on all the Pirelli P Zero range, starting with the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
The teams tried the prototype tyres right from the very first runs in FP1, before switching to the P Zero Yellow medium and P Zero Red soft.
The Red Bull duo was quickest on the Softs in the first session. Max Verstappen stopped the clocks in 1m 14.606s and Sergio Perez posted a 1m15.374s. Esteban Ocon (Alpine) was third in 1m15.418s.
In FP2, Max Verstappen was again fastest, improving on his morning time by almost seven tenths. His best lap of all was a 1m13.907s. At his home race, Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) was second quickest in 1m14.077s, while Nico Hulkenberg was third for Haas with a time of 1m14.177s. During this session, only the Alpine drivers tried the P Zero White hard on their first run. All the other teams continued with the prototype tyre, Medium and Soft.
The best time on the test C1 was set by Max Verstappen in FP2, while when it came to the C1 available for this Grand Prix, Alpine was the only team to use it and Esteban Ocon's best time was 1m15.999s. Verstappen was also quickest on the Mediums in 1m14.968s.
