Pole sitter Max Verstappen recorded his eighth win of the 2023 Formula One season at the British Grand Prix on the Silverstone Circuit on Sunday. The the win gave Red Bull its 11th win in a row which ties McLaren's all time record.
Verstappen lost his number one position on race start to McLaren's Lando Norris who was sitting outside the pole but regained the position four laps later.
"Eleven wins in a row for the Team is pretty incredible, the whole Team can be proud of that," said Verstappen, adding, "It definitely wasn't straightforward today though, we had a bad start which made it more exciting for the fans, but we definitely need to look into that improve on it."
The Grand Prix's most interesting action occurred on a Lap 38 safety car restart. With Verstappen pulling away, the race for second thrilled the crowd with Lewis Hamilton on soft tyres trying to take P2 from Lando Norris who was on hards.
The two British drivers started P2 on the grid (Norris) and P7 (Hamilton). In the end, Hamilton was unable to take the position from his young British counterpart with Norris appearing second on the podium and Hamilton appearing third.
"It was an amazing fight with Lewis, to hold him off, and I brought the fight to Max for as long as possible," said Norris. "It's a long, lonely race when you're just in the middle but it's amazing to be on the podium at my home race."
Lando's McLaren teammate, Oscar Piastri, finished an impressive fourth after starting third with Hamilton's teammate, George Russell, rounding out the top five.
"For us to get on the podium is huge. It's been an up-and-down season and we've still got a lot of work to do with our car. We've got strengths with it, particularly our long run," said Hamilton.
"George had a great stint on the Soft tyre and mine on the Medium was really good too. As soon as we can improve the rear end we will be on our way. We just need to hold on to the good bits and add a few others," added Hamilton.
Verstappen's teammate, Sergio Perez, finished sixth with Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso finishing seventh.
Alex Albon had an excellent weekend for Williams Racing qualifying eighth on Saturday and finishing eighth on Sunday. Albon also ran third quickest in both of the Friday practice sessions. Coming out of Silverstone, Williams has moved up to seventh in the Constructors Championship.
The Ferrari drivers, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, arguably had a disappointing race day for the Tifosi finishing ninth and tenth respectively. Leclerc and Sainz qualified fourth and fifth, respectively.
Alpine Racing, whose Enstone, UK base is close to the Silverstone Circuit, recorded a double DNF on the day. Alpine driver Pierre Gasly's DNF was due to a racing incident with Aston Martin's Lance Stroll. Stroll earned a penalty for the Lap 46 incident.
