Bahrain GP Sunday Results

Bahrain International Circuit, Bahrain (March 20, 2022)

Scuderia Ferrari's 2022 season got off to the best possible start, with Charles Leclerc leading team-mate Carlos Sainz across the line to record the team's 85th one-two finish in Formula 1 at the 2022 Bahrain Grand Prix.

The win was Ferrari's 239th and Charles' third after those in Belgium and Italy in 2019. Leclerc drove a near perfect race, securing the first hat trick of his career, namely pole position, fastest race lap and the win.

Sainz took the chequered flag in second place to record his fifth podium with the Scuderia, his seventh in total in Formula 1.

"Coming into this season, we knew we would be in a better position than we have been for the past two years, but we didn't know exactly where we would stand. To be back on top with a car that is capable of winning feels incredible," said Leclerc.

Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes brought his W13 home in P3 with teammate George Russell just behind in P4.

A late safety car and reliability issues for the Red Bulls ahead allowed the Mercedes to take their opportunities and complete an effective damage limitation weekend.

"It was a difficult race for us today, we've struggled throughout practice and this is really the best result we could have got," said Hamilton.

The Red Bulls of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez finished 18th and 19th with apparent technical failures.

Haas driver Kevin Magnussen finished fifth with teammate Mick Schumacher finishing 11th.

Alfa Romeo F1 Team ORLEN opened its 2022 campaign with a strong performance that delivered a double points finish, with Valtteri Bottas finishing 6th ahead of team-mate, Zhou Guanyu, in P10.

"Coming home with two cars in the points in the first race is the perfect way to start the season. The team has demonstrated skill but also resilience as we came back from a poor start, but stuck to our plan and made a lot of progress through the field," said Frederic Vasseur, Alfa Romero Team Principal.
